Starting Kindergarten is an exciting milestone for your child and family.  It marks the beginning of a journey filled with learning, discovery, and growth.  Our dedicated teachers and staff are eager to welcome your child into a nurturing and engaging environment that sets the foundation for lifelong success.

• Access to important updates and resources from your home campus.
• Invitations to special kindergarten transition events.
• A smoother enrollment process for you and your child.

Required Documents for Kindergarten Registration

To complete your child's kindergarten registration, please have the following documents ready.  Providing these documents early ensures a smooth enrollment process and helps your child's home campus prepare for a great start!

Documents Needed:

• Child's Original Birth Certificate - A certified copy to verify age and identity.
• Child's Immunization Record - Must be up to date as required by state law.
• Parent Identification - A valid government-issued ID (driver's license, passport, or state ID).
• Proof of Address - A current utility bill (light, gas, or water) or a lease agreement in the parent/guardian's name.

How to Submit Your Documents

Bring copies to the registration events at Brownwood ISD Central Support Center, 2707 Southside Dr during designated registration hours.

TIP: Registering early ensures you receive important udpates, kindergarten transition events, and other valuable information before the school year begins.

Kindergarten Readiness

Starting kindergarten is a big step!  To help your child feel confident and prepared, we've outlined key skills and resources to support a smooth transition into school life.

What Does Kindergarten Readiness Look Like
Children enter kindergarten at different levels, but these foundational skills can help set them up for success:
 

Social & Emotional Readiness

• Can follow simple instructions
• Expresses needs and wants
• Shows kindness and plays well with others
• Can sit and listen for short periods

Academic Readiness

• Recognizes their name in print
• Knows basic colors, shapes, and some letters
• Counts to 10 and understands simple numbers
• Enjoys listening to stories and looking at books

Self-Help Skills

• Uses the restroom independently
• Can put on shoes and a backpack
• Knows how to open lunch containers and snacks
• Takes care of personal belongings

How Can Families Help?

• Read together daily - Helps with language and comprehension
• Practice writing their name - Builds confidence for classroom tasks
• Play simple games - Encourages problem-solving and turn-taking
• Encourage conversation - Expands vocabulary and listening skills
