This January, Brownwood ISD (BISD) proudly joins school districts across Texas to celebrate School Board Recognition Month. This annual observance serves as an opportunity to honor the seven dedicated trustees who volunteer their time, expertise, and leadership to ensure the success of Brownwood’s students and the local community.
 
The theme for 2026, "Our Future Is Public," highlights the vital role school boards play in shaping the next generation. As local trustees guide the direction of the district, they are making a direct investment in the future workforce and the long-term strength of the Texas economy.
 
"Our trustees are the backbone of our district's success," said BISD Superintendent Dr. Joe Young. "They serve as tireless advocates for our students, ensuring that BISD remains the 'District of Choice' by providing a high-quality education and a wealth of opportunities that prepare our children for the world beyond the classroom."
 
Under the leadership of the Board, BISD continues to offer a comprehensive portfolio of no-tuition programs. These include premier athletics, performing and visual arts, and diverse extracurricular activities. Furthermore, the Board’s commitment to innovation has expanded access to the latest educational technology and a growing variety of career pathways, industry certifications, and dual credit programs that help families significantly reduce future college expenses.
Board members serving BISD include Board President Michael Cloy, Vice President Roderick B. Jones, Sr., Secretary Diane Thompson, Tim Wilson, Codie Smith, Connor Arrington, and Justin Posey.
