'Terminators' Defeat 'Ravens' in 2025-26 Coggin 6th Grade Flag Football Super Bowl
On Thursday, November 20th, the Coggin 6th Grade flag football teams, the “Terminators” and “Ravens,” competed in the annual 6th Grade Super Bowl event. The game was held in the new Brownwood High School (BHS) Multi-Purpose Activity Center (MAC) indoor facility.
The BHS Mighty Maroon Marching Band kicked off the event with a performance of the BHS Fight Song which was followed by the players running through their large hand-drawn team signs. The National Anthem was performed by the Coggin Elementary 6th Grade Choir, directed by Mrs. Ashley Foust.
Coach Brandon Brown provided the following play-by-play recap of the game:
Team captains, Jackson Hope (Ravens) and Jace Byrd (Terminators), met at the 50-yard line for the coin toss. Referees Cliff Ross and Mark Brownlee handled the coin flip, and the Terminators won the toss, choosing to defer.
After the kickoff, the Terminators (Maroon) secured a quick stop on the Ravens’ (White) first possession. The Terminators marched down the field with great catches by Kashtin Jones and Mylz Revada, culminating in a touchdown pass from Hudson Doremus to Kashtin Jones for 6 points. The 2-point conversion was no good, leaving the score at 6-0. The Terminators successfully executed an onside kick and marched down the field again but came up short after a fumble, turning the ball over to the Ravens.
Henry Bauchman (Ravens) connected with Nathan Barron for a 25-yard gain. Although a subsequent pass and catch from Bauchman to Grant May was short of the first down, the Terminators took over. On their first play of the drive, Doremus connected to Sabastian Ibarra for a big gain and a first down, followed by a 7-yard pass to Joseph Van Overbeke. Barron then came up big for the Ravens with an interception. Bauchman followed this up with back-to-back passes to May for 37 yards and 15 yards. The next play saw Barron take it in for a 6-yard touchdown, tying the score at 6-6, with the 2-point conversion no good.
After the ensuing kickoff, Doremus handed off to Jones for a 27-yard gain, and the next play, Doremus found John Gonzales for a touchdown, making the score 12-6. With the 2-point conversion good (Doremus to Mylz Revada), the score moved to 14-6.
At halftime, the Brownwood High School Mighty Maroon Marching Band, directed by Jason Jones, "rocked the house" and put on a great show for all the 5th and 6th graders, as well as families and friends. Coach Brown noted that the band continues to amaze and is a big highlight for the players and is crucial for recruitment.
The Terminators received the kickoff to start the second half, which Jace Byrd returned for 16 yards. Following handoffs to Kashtin Jones and Jace Byrd, they were set up for first and goal, leading to a touchdown from Hudson Doremus to Jones. Henry Bauchman batted the conversion away, leaving the score at 20-6. Jaxen Behler quickly jumped on the ensuing kickoff for the Ravens, saving a possible onside kick. The Ravens scored next when Sam Windham handed off to Jaxen Behler for a 10-yard gain, followed by Bauchman connecting with Ethan Alcala for a large 52-yard gain. On the next play, Bauchman put it in for a Ravens touchdown, and the 2-point conversion from Bauchman to Grant May was good, tightening the score to 20-14.
After a failed Ravens onside kick, the Terminators scored again with Doremus finding Revada for a touchdown. The 2-point conversion to Byrd was good, extending the Terminators lead to 28-14. On the kickoff, Ayden Jones returned it for 15 yards. Shortly after, Bauchman’s pass was intercepted by Byrd. The momentum swung again when Doremus threw an interception, recovered by Nathan Barron. Right away, Sam Windham connected to Grant May for a 55-yard touchdown. With the following 2-point conversion good to Jaxon Smith, the Ravens closed the gap to 28-22.
The Ravens made a great effort to come back but fell short as time expired and the Terminators were crowned the 2025 6th Grade Flag Football Champions.
“I am very proud of these guys that participated this year, and it was a fun season,” stated Brown. “This is a talented group, and middle school will have a team that will be a force to reckon with next year. They will be a fun group to watch grow and become future Lions.”
