Brownwood Independent School District has earned an overall B rating of 83 from the Texas Education Agency, rising from a C rating of 78 the previous year. The improvement reflects stronger student outcomes district-wide, with notable gains at multiple campuses.

“These ratings are something our entire Brownwood community can be proud of,” said Brownwood ISD Superintendent Dr. Joe Young. “They reflect the hard work our students put in every day and the incredible commitment of our teachers, staff, administrators, and families. I am especially proud of the growth at Brownwood High School, which rose from 78 to 89. That kind of growth does not happen by accident. Our teachers have challenged students, our students have responded, and our campuses continue to improve.”

Young also pointed out that progress showed up across every major area the state tracks, showing the improvement came from the district as a whole rather than any single campus or group of students. “Just as important, we saw improvement across every district-level accountability measure that TEA monitors — Student Achievement, School Progress, and Closing the Gaps. That tells us this was not the result of a single campus, a single grade level, or a single group of students. It reflects the collective work taking place across Brownwood ISD. Every campus contributed to this progress, and every employee who supports our students played a part in helping the district move from a C to a B.” He added that while ratings do not capture everything that happens in classrooms, they do offer meaningful confirmation of the quality of education in Brownwood and the steady work taking place every day.

The district’s focus remains on continuous improvement for its own students. “These ratings do not define everything that happens in our schools, but they are an important validation of the quality of education provided here and of the work our people do every day,” noted Young. “East Elementary earning an A and the tremendous growth at Brownwood High School are certainly accomplishments worth celebrating, but so is the district-wide progress behind our B rating. Our goal is not to be better than somebody else; our goal is to be the very best Brownwood ISD can be. These results give our community another reason to believe in its schools and to be proud of the students and educators who make them special.”
