Brownwood ISD Announces New Basketball Coaching Leadership for 2026-2027 Season

Brownwood ISD is proud to announce that current staff members Graylon Brown and Brandon Florey will be taking on new leadership roles within the Lions basketball program. Graylon Brown has been named the new Head Basketball Coach, and Brandon Florey will step up as the Assistant Varsity Basketball Coach.
Coach Graylon Brown is entering his second year teaching and coaching at Brownwood High School (BHS). A Brownwood native and BHS graduate, Brown was a four-year letterman in Varsity Basketball and a three-year letterman in Varsity Football and Baseball. He went on to play baseball at Angelo State University, where he earned a degree in Business Management, competed in back-to-back College World Series in 2015 and 2016, and became the Lone Star Conference All-Time Saves Leader.
During his first year coaching at BHS last season, Brown served as the JV basketball coach, leading the team to a Dublin tournament victory and demonstrating steady improvement throughout the season. He also contributed to the varsity football team's run to the second round of the playoffs as a receivers coach and guided the JV baseball team through a season of growth and resilience. In addition to taking the helm of the basketball program, Brown will continue his roles as an assistant varsity football and assistant baseball coach.
"Being from Brownwood, I'm excited for the new challenge," Coach Brown said regarding his new position. "I'm excited to build a program that these young men deserve and create an atmosphere for the Brownwood community".
Brown moved back to Brownwood with his fiancée and two daughters last year, bringing with him a deep commitment to his hometown. "My goal is to not only lead as head coach, but also to serve the community," Brown stated. "I want to help young athletes understand the value of hard work, discipline, accountability and character, while encouraging them to excel both on and off the field and in the classroom as outstanding student-athletes".
Joining Brown on the varsity bench is Brandon Florey, who is entering his third year teaching 8th-grade English at Brownwood Middle School and his second year of coaching. A fellow BHS graduate from the Class of 2000, Florey has already made a significant impact on Brownwood's athletic programs.
In his new position, Coach Florey will be on the high school campus every day during the athletic period to assist with the varsity basketball program. He will also continue his coaching duties in middle school football and track.
"I love Brownwood and I love Brownwood Basketball," Coach Florey shared. "We've got a really skilled mix of sophomore, junior, and senior players that have worked very hard over the summer and they have improved tremendously. I know we are going to compete in district this year and I believe we'll be playing in the playoffs. I look forward to working as hard as I can to serve these kids, because they're ready to get after it".
Brownwood ISD congratulates Coach Brown and Coach Florey on their new roles and looks forward to a highly successful and exciting season on the court.
