Over 350 Brownwood ISD Students Receive Free Physicals Through Annual Community Partnership

On Friday, May 15, over 350 student athletes received free UIL sports physicals at the new Brownwood ISD Multi-Purpose Activity Center, continuing a long-standing community tradition of supporting student health and wellness.
Michael Cloy with AccelHealth shared, “The free UIL physicals have been organized by local medical providers as far back as the 1990s as far as I know. I have been organizing them since around 2001, in conjunction with the athletic trainer.”
This year’s medical team included Michael Cloy and Tammy McCullough from AccelHealth; Dr. James Deal, Sara Stephenson, PA, Joel Bachman, PA, and Cheyenne Musick, FNP, with Hendrick Provider Network; Misty Fry, FNP, with Solaris Hospice; and Dr. Rance Boren, Neurologist.
AccelHealth nursing staff assisting with the event included Carrie Walters, Heather Ireland, and Michelle McKinney, along with AccelHealth Patient Assistance Manager Giovana Garcia, Benefit Coordinator staff, and Jill Evans, Fundraising Development Director. The event was also coordinated with the support of the Brownwood ISD athletic trainer and athletic secretary.
A total of 368 physicals were completed during the event.
Jill Evans, who has participated in the community-wide event for the past 11 years, shared, “Each year, AccelHealth provides students with fun items to kick off the summer break — from beach balls and frisbees to waterproof tote bags — celebrating another successful school year. AccelHealth also provides snacks and treats for hungry students coming through the lines. Parents are grateful they do not have to leave work, and students do not miss school thanks to free sports physicals offered right on campus.”
Brownwood ISD is grateful for its partnership with AccelHealth and our local healthcare providers, which enables us to offer these services to our students each year.
