BHS Lionettes Present “Dancing with the Lionettes”
On Saturday, April 18th, 2026, the Brownwood High School Lionettes presented their annual spring show. This year’s theme, “Dancing With The Lionettes,” featured several showstopping moments of choreography to songs like “Confident” by Demi Lovato, “Breaking Dishes” by Rihanna, “Conga” by Gloria Estefan, “Fine Line” by Harry Styles, and more. The BHS Lionettes consists of fifteen girls and two managers. “The Captain (Kailee Bessent) and Officers (Kiara Godinho, and Natalia Ramos) have been working on this since returning to school from Christmas,” said Lionettes director Kacey Humphries. “Rachel Smith and Nixon Johnson are the ones who choreographed Guy Drill team this year and have been working on this particular dance for the last month.” The entire team worked together to choreograph, learn, and integrate costume changes for each of the ten routines. Between dance performances, interacts and colorful emcees kept the audience’s attention. Interacts featured various members of the BHS Band, as well as the “Guy Drill Team” who left the audience rolling with applause and laughter. “They dreamed of having the best show yet, and with dances like the underclassman dance to ‘Confident.’ and the officer dance to the ‘Conga,’ you not only see the absolute talent, but the drive and dedication that these ladies have put in to make this show the best one yet,” Humphries said.
The two-hour performance used the many skills involved to create and implement an entertaining experience, calling for all involved to pitch in and help. “Officers picked outfits with input from individuals from each dance,” Humphries said. “The managers, Courtnee Williams and Asriel Garcia, were absolutely crucial this year. Courtnee ran the curtain while Asriel was backstage in the dressing room helping with costume changes, and ensuring no wardrobe malfunctions occurred. Spring show is the Lionettes’ way to demonstrate all of their skill as well as a wide variety of choreography. All of the dances were choreographed by someone or a group of members on the team.” The various routines followed themes with colorful costumes, the Underclassmen performing a routine, as well as the Officers, Four-Year Members, and Seniors. Fan favorites included the Kick routine, Pom routine, and the Blackout routine, which utilized glow-in-the-dark costumes and black lights. The group of dancers who earned an invitation to New York to dance in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade performed their routine from that event.
The entire evening became possible because of the various efforts of everyone involved, from the Lionettes, their directors, the theatre department, interacts, and family support. “I want to personally thank my assistant, Ashley Harrell, for all that she does for me,” Humphries said. “Without her, the Lionettes as a team would not be as functional and good as we are. I also want to send the parents of Lionettes members my appreciation and gratitude. The group of parents the last couple of years have been the absolute best and the biggest support for our team. Anything that we need and have a vision for, they make it happen for us. I also want to thank all of the line members for yet another amazing year! I am looking forward to what the next year will bring and excited to see how we will grow and develop as a team.”
