Brownwood HOSA Students Awarded at National Conference
Brownwood high school and middle school students participated amongst 11,000 students from across the nation at HOSA’s International Leadership conference this past month at Walt Disney World Resorts in Florida. All five of the high school students graced the international stage. James Bautista was asked to carry the Texas flag to represent our state and was also recognized for the Outstanding HOSA Chapter. Additional recognitions included Tanner Scull (Mastery Level of the Health Care Issues Exam), Emily Chapa (Newsletter in HOSA Happenings), and Laurel Glass and Sierra Fleet were honored for donations to the National Service Project, earning a Certificate of Merit and Certificate of Recognition accordingly.
“This group of students were a delight to take on a trip of this magnitude,” said BHS Health Science teacher and HOSA Advisor, Annalyn Deen. “They showed they were responsible and able to communicate well. We had to get up every day and catch a bus to a different hotel just to go to sessions and catch another bus to get to certain events. The communicative effort between all students, Mrs. Biasiolli, Mrs. Sharpe and I was awesome. They were leaders amongst their peers. It made me so proud to see them meeting new people and branching out.”
Kristi Sharpe was the advisor for the 12 Brownwood Middle School attendees that made it to international competition. These students worked hard and all advanced to round two of their competitive events. “I am so incredibly proud of these students,” said Sharpe. “They worked hard to get to this level of competition. They also had to fundraise to be able to participate in an event of this magnitude.”
The final placings of the middle school competitors are as follows: Megan Terrill (3rd place - Speaking Skills), Aidan Howard, Michael Camp, Alli Touhakis, Kali Alvizo, Magaly Cervantes, and Savannah Rodriguez (4th place - Public Health), Christopher Robinson (5th place - Health Lifestyle), Andrew Boren (7th place - Medical Terminology), and Aishwarya Nigalye (10th place - Medical Terminology).
