BMS Music Students Enjoy New Sight Reading Tools Thanks to Foundation Grant
Seventh and eighth grade choir students at BMS have been working on their sight reading skills. Thanks to a Brownwood Education Foundation grant, “Sight Reading Factory” subscriptions were purchased and the students have been using them weekly.

Emergency Drills to be Held at Brownwood ISD Schools
In order to maintain a safe environment for our children to study and learn, it is necessary that the BISD practice emergency response procedures by utilizing drills designed to exercise the plans and protocols. Starting Monday April 25 through Thursday April 28, Brownwood ISD will be conducting campus evacuation drills for every campus within the district.

BISD Partners with Education Foundation to Provide School Supplies for Students
The Brownwood Education Foundation has partnered with BISD to fund the project. "BEF and BISD have been talking about it for several years," said Liesa Land, BISD Deputy Superintendent, "so this year we just reached out and asked them. Parents will only be asked to send the two to three things on the school supply list. Everything else will be provided."

Brownwood ISD Food Service Announces Free Lunches for Students Starting in October
Made possible through funding provided by the USDA and the program which helped provide free meals earlier during the COVID-19 pandemic, BISD students will be able to eat lunch FREE at their school Oct. 1 through Dec. 31, or until the state funding runs out.

Robotics Program Thriving at Brownwood Middle School
Enrollment in the BMS Robotics program has increased exponentially in the 2020 school year, and more kits were needed. On Thursday, September 17, Brownwood Education Foundation (BEF) presented a check to Smith for the purchase of additional kits as an extension of the previous robotics grant to support STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) initiatives in Brownwood classrooms.

BMS Class Examines the Importance of Proper Hand-Washing With Glowing Results
Brownwood Middle School’s seventh and eighth grade science teacher Johna Elliott showed her classes the importance of hand-washing as school started up for the 2020-2021 academic year. Students learned first-hand the importance of sanitary habits, washing hands, keeping hands away from the face, and practicing thorough cleansing. Whether six feet apart or five microns, students will remember the glow of how much of an impact just one touch can make.
