Brownwood ISD School Spotlight - Woodland Heights Elementary
Woodland Heights Elementary is one of the four BISD elementary schools that will see new teachers and grade levels this year as students are welcomed back to school. The campus, located in southern Brownwood at 3900 4th Street, will now host PK-5th grade students, bringing new energy to the school.

Woodland Heights Second Grade Students Enjoy Elegant Tea Party
On Thursday, May 5th, 2022, ninety-three second-graders filed in to the school cafeteria, their eyes lighting up at the tables decorated with ornate lace tablecloths and silver plant stands adorned with ferns and greenery.

Emergency Drills to be Held at Brownwood ISD Schools
In order to maintain a safe environment for our children to study and learn, it is necessary that the BISD practice emergency response procedures by utilizing drills designed to exercise the plans and protocols. Starting Monday April 25 through Thursday April 28, Brownwood ISD will be conducting campus evacuation drills for every campus within the district.

Woodland Heights Elementary Announces Pumpkin Decorating Contest Winners
Woodland Heights Elementary added to their fall festivities with a school-wide pumpkin decorating contest. Students were encouraged to decorate a pumpkin to be displayed in the school library, and their imagination was the limit. Categories included Holiday, Animals, Unicorns, People, Miscellaneous, Nature, Food, Sports, Superheroes, and Favorite TV/Cartoon Character.

BISD Partners with Education Foundation to Provide School Supplies for Students
The Brownwood Education Foundation has partnered with BISD to fund the project. "BEF and BISD have been talking about it for several years," said Liesa Land, BISD Deputy Superintendent, "so this year we just reached out and asked them. Parents will only be asked to send the two to three things on the school supply list. Everything else will be provided."

STAAR Scores Accessible Through TEA Online Student Portal
STAAR scores may be accessed on an online student portal created by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). Log in to the student portal at www.texasassessment.com to view your child’s STAAR scores and access additional resources.

Woodland Heights Green Team Celebrates Recycling Success
The Green Team has crossed several hurdles and surpassed many goals since it began in 2008. Celebrating their thirteenth year of recycling, the team has collected over 100,000 pounds of recycling over the last two school years!

BISD Announces Update Regarding Masks
Beginning Thursday, April 15, wearing a mask for BISD students, staff, and visitors will become optional while in district facilities, on school buses, and at school-sanctioned events.

3M Donates iPads to BISD First Graders
BISD students have become accustomed to using iPads in classrooms, so while Lee noticed the need for familiarity for her students, she also found a method to incorporate efficient tools for the motor skills her students could fully utilize. Donors Choose is an online funding site which aids teachers, and their connections came through.

Pumpkin Patches Bring Fall Joy to Brownwood Elementary Schools
With classes unable to travel and visit the Pumpkin Patch at Sliger's Market, Cullen Sliger, owner of Sliger's Market, has worked closely with Kristi Owen, Woodland Heights Assistant Principal, in setting up a Pumpkin Patch at all of the BISD elementary campuses.

Brownwood ISD Food Service Announces Free Lunches for Students Starting in October
Made possible through funding provided by the USDA and the program which helped provide free meals earlier during the COVID-19 pandemic, BISD students will be able to eat lunch FREE at their school Oct. 1 through Dec. 31, or until the state funding runs out.

Student progress reports will be distributed on May 5th. Each teacher will report student learning as “P” for Progressing or “NP” for Not Progressing. For 2020 BHS seniors, an information sheet containing FAQs has been posted.

Educational Update Based on Governor Abbott’s April 17th Orders
Based on the April 17th executive order of Governor Abbott, the Bangs, Blanket, Brookesmith, Brownwood, Coleman, Early, May, Panther Creek, Santa Anna, and Zephyr ISDs will only be providing off-campus instruction for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.

Cheeseburgers that were served as the first hot meal pick-up on Wednesday, April 8, were a hit. BISD Food Service/SFE prepared and served 948 lunches for kids today. Combined with breakfast, a total of 1,896 meals were provided!
