I am extremely humbled and very excited to have the opportunity to be a part of the Brownwood ISD team and the Brownwood community. As I visit with staff, students, and community members, their Brownwood Lion pride is evident. We are lucky to be a part of such a great school district and community! I commit together we will attack each day with infectious enthusiasm and a great attitude. We will work at a healthy tempo to do what is best for our students.

As Brownwood Superintendent, I will focus on three main areas. First, I will help create an environment where we continually focus on our mission and vision of putting students first. Second, I will help the district recruit, hire, and retain outstanding personnel to work with and for our students. Third, I will help our district remove distractions and implement improvements to help our outstanding teachers and personnel focus on our students and their learning.
 
An educator since 1995, Dr. Joe Young became Superintendent for Brownwood Independent School District on January 4, 2016. Dr. Young received his Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Sam Houston State University, his Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas Wesleyan University, and his Bachelor of Science in Wildlife and Fisheries Science from Texas A&M University. He began his teaching and coaching career in middle and high school science for Conroe and Cypress Fairbanks ISDs. He was the Athletic Director/Head Football Coach for Grapeland ISD and continued with Grapeland as a middle school and high school principal. Following Grapeland, Dr. Young moved to Corsicana ISD where he served as Director, Executive Director, Assistant Superintendent, and Deputy Superintendent from 2008 until moving to Brownwood. Dr. Young is a member of the Texas Association of School Administrators, Texas Association of School Business Officials, and has served as University Interscholastic League Executive Committee Chair in several districts.
