Employee Rights - Paid Sick Leave and Expanded Family And Medical Leave (COVID-19)
The Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA or Act) requires certain employers to provide their employees with paid sick leave and expanded family and medical leave for specified reasons related to COVID-19. These provisions will apply from April 1, 2020 through December 31, 2020.

Health Insurance - TRS-ActiveCare
TRS-ActiveCare assists you and your family in case of illness or injury. The plan covers many health care needs, including preventive care and physician office visits, inpatient and outpatient services, behavioral health, prescription drugs, and more. TRS-ActiveCare is administered by Blue Cross Blue Shield. Blue Cross Blue Shield provides claims payment services only and does not assume any financial risk or obligation with respect to claims. Prescription drug benefits are administered by CVS/Caremark.

Teacher Retirement System (TRS)
Brownwood ISD is one of the few district that participates in both TRS and federal Social Security. Our employees have double retirement. Active TRS members may become a registered user on the TRS website to review their account information. To become a registered user, request a TRS form from the Personnel Office. Information on the TRS website includes retirement planning, calculating your retirement benefits, long-term care insurance and more.

Student Loan Information for Teachers
Every year the Texas Education Agency (TEA) submits a list of subject matter teacher shortage areas and a list of designated low-income schools to the U.S. Department of Education (USDE). Teachers with certain types of student loans may qualify for partial loan forgiveness, deferment or cancellation benefits. For more information, go to the TEA website.

Brownwood ISD Flexibility Benefits Plan offers a variety of supplemental coverage, such as dental, flexible spending accounts, cancer policies, and life insurance. If you are interested in learning more about these benefits, visit the First Financial Group of America website. To sign up for additional benefits, contact Michelle White in the Business Office at 325-643-5644. Participating employees have a User ID and Password to access your account.
