Introduction to Theatre

  • Course Description

The student will study different components of theatre including dramatic works, stage elements, stage properties, careers in theatre, as well as costume and makeup design, scene design, and basic theatre terminology. The student will learn shop safety and basic set construction through model construction. The main goal of this course is to introduce students to the world of theatre through project learning. Besides hands on exposure, the student will also be introduced to the history of theatre and its importance in society. Above all, the student will appreciate the dedication necessary to be successful in a discipline like theatre, which truly reflects the dedication necessary to succeed in life.

Each semester the student will be REQUIRED to attend one play or musical and write a critique over the performance. This is to be completed independently by the student and turned in by the week of exams for the fall and spring semesters. As show dates are available, I will make it a point to remind students.
