I wonder if anyone has ever asked them before? Raising Teens magazine once asked a large group of teenagers what advice they would give to parents of younger children. Some of their wisdom follows: “Set an example. Do as you TELL your children. Many parents don’t want their kids to do drugs, but they smoke and drink themselves.” “Saying ‘I’m right because I’m your dad' doesn’t work.” “If parents show their child that they messed up and were wrong, it makes parents look human and not like some overbearing being.” “Always show affection and always let your children know they have the potential to do anything.” “Be approachable. Don’t flip out.” “Love your kids. More importantly: Be there. A lot of people love their kids but aren’t around for them.” “A parent doesn't always realize how much it means to a kid to hear that their mom or dad loves them." "Start early with discipline. Make sure chores or homework are done before play or TV.” “Give kids all the attention they need. You may have your own problems, but you should still pay attention to your kids. They look to you for advice, and if you’re not there, they’ll go someplace else.” “Always talk to your child. If you wait until junior high, it’s too late.” “Be cool, but always be a parent.” Kids the age of ours are not too old yet that this is still great parenting advice! - Bob Turner
